Because words are no longer enough… acts now !
The ambition of With Women is to value and strengthen women’s position as catalysts of change in our society. For this to happen, one of our major courses of action is to support projects empowering the autonomy of women, and their capacity to lead their lives and have a positive impact on society.
We are convinced that the action of thousands of people around the world can move mountains and make a deep change, yet we also know that public policies role is decisive to support, amplify and accelerate these changes.
Rich countries’ responsibility, especially in Europe, is high. Our countries have major technical, financial and diplomatic potential.
Facing the emergency of necessary changes, words are no longer enough. For decades, NGOs and many international institutions (UNIFEM, PNUD, PNUE, FAO, UNICEF, GIEC…) raised the alarm. For decades, rich countries engaged themselves in numerous speeches, official stances, and international congresses, in various fields such as health, education, environment, reduction of pollution, struggle against discrimination and violence against women, access to water, and the amount and quality of public development aid…
Unfortunately, acts rarely come up to the engagements. Only a strong public opinion, mobilization, will allow a real political engagement. That is why us, citizens, have a power the scale of which, we are largely unaware.
We must use this power today, mobilizing all citizens of the world and political actors which are sensitive to the plight of women, to ensure implementation of a worldwide action plan to :
- Strengthen women in society
- Fight against all forms of discrimination against women
- Ensure better access for women and girls to essential services (health, education, nutrition) and basic resources (water, land, sustainable energy) and contribute to their financial autonomy.
